United Nations
Following the conclusion of World War Two, the newly-created United Nations needed its own facilities in order to structure itself and work towards the lofty goal of world peace. With little irony, New York City, a metropolis of multiple peoples, became the site of UN Headquarters. As United Nations HQ is popular with visitors, it is a good idea to book United Nations Headquarters parking ahead of time, rather than search for a place to park on the day you visit.
When the United Nations came into being in 1945, the organization did not have a home of its own. After choosing the United States as its host country, the UN accepted a deal with John D. Rockefeller for building its headquarters in New York City's Turtle Bay neighborhood. With construction set to start in 1948, there had to be plans in place for how to design the new complex. After much discussion, a combined design by France's Le Corbusier and Brazil's Oscar Niemeyer was chosen and constructed, becoming operational in 1952. The complex was last renovated in May 2008. As the UN complex is located on Manhattan, there are plenty of United Nations NYC parking locations in the borough, many of which allow you to book parking in advance.
Today, there are four readily visible structures, consisting of the General Assembly Building, the Conference Building, the Secretariat Building and the Dag Hammarskjold Library, which was named for the second UN Secretary-General, dedicated in 1961 following his passing. Several important works of art are installed at the UN, including the Japanese Peace Bell, a tapestry by Picasso, stained glass by Marc Chagall, along with various sculptures and mosaics. To see these great works by some of the finest artists on the planet, it would be wise to book United Nations Building parking ahead of time with ParkWhiz.
