The Mercedes-Benz Stadium is adjacent to the now-demolished Georgia Dome, which housed the Atlanta Falcons from 1992 – 2016. After opening in August 26, 2017, the Mercedes-Benz Stadium filled its predecessor’s place in bringing the ultimate sports viewing experience to fans. The stadium’s full capacity is 83,000 once fully expanded, and the stadium’s retractable roof covers a whopping 14-acres, and only takes about nine to 12 minutes to open or close.

Mercedes-Benz Stadium is home to two yearly bowl games, the Peach Bowl and the Celebration Bowl. Formerly known as the Chick-fil-a Bowl, the Peach Bowl began in 1968 as a means to raise funds for Lions Clubs. The sponsorship switched to the Atlanta Chamber of Commerce and then the fast-food restaurant Chick-fil-a in 1997. The Peach Bowl has been used for College Football Playoff events since 2014, most recently for the 2016, 2019 and 2022 games.

The Celebration Bowl happens at the stadium in the third week of December every year, hosting teams from the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference and the Southwestern Athletic Conference. The event was previously played at the Georgia Dome before moving to Mercedes-Benz Stadium. The Celebration Bowl replaces the Pelican Bowl and Heritage Bowl, acting as a championship for HBCU football teams.

The venue is also home to one of the largest video boards in U.S. sports.
