The Royals relocated to Cincinnati in 1957 and following a period of changes, the team relocated again to Kansas City/Omaha in 1972, though they dropped Omaha in 1975 and were renamed the Kansas City Kings. As part of a successful attempt to keep the team in the city, Golden 1 Center was built as the new home of the Kings, which opened in 2016.
