About Murat Theatre at Old National Centre
Indianapolis is the home of an architectural treasure known as the Old National Centre, formerly known as the Murat Theatre or Murat Centre. Owned by the House of Blues company, the Old National Centre is a unique structure, a melange of Near Eastern themes with American practicality. It has a long and storied history, but has stood the test of time and multiple uses. The one element not included in the Old National Center is an official parking facility. Due to the venue’s popularity as a place to see Broadway musicals, comedies and concerts, Old National Center parking spaces may be difficult to find unless you book them in advance.
The structure was built in 1909 for the Murat Shriners organization, and was heavily influenced by the art and architecture of the Near East. Despite being just as old as the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, the excitement in the Old National Centre comes not from stock car racing, but from the drama and humor of the storylines performed on stage.
There are several rooms in the Old National Centre which can be used for events. First and most prominent is the 2,600 seat theatre, dedicated to the performing arts. It is a typical three-leveled theatre, which makes use of a deep, crimson red color scheme, in contrast to the Egyptian Room, a huge meeting room with multi-colored chandeliers and a stage, able to hold up to 2,000 guests. If that wasn’t enough, there is an 1,800 concert hall and a 600-foot multi-function room for events. Other meeting rooms that are available for use (but not specifically for shows) include the Deluxe (450 guests), the Corinthian Room (200) and the Deco (200). If one or more of these rooms are used for a single event, it is advisable to book Old National Center parking ahead of time.
Several Broadway shows have been successfully performed at the Old National Centre, including The Lion King, Jersey Boys, Cats, Wicked and Dreamgirls. The Old National Center has also been host to several performers, such as Marilyn Manson, Tracy Morgan, Amy Schumer, Vampire Weekend, Jimmy Eat World and Queens of the Stone Age. Old National Centre parking may be difficult to find, so booking Old National Centre parking spaces with ParkWhiz is the best way to get to the show.
It’s a piece of cake to find Old National Center parking on ParkWhiz; choose the event that you’ll need Old National Center parking for, print out your Old National Center Indianapolis parking pass (or use a mobile pass on your smartphone), and enjoy Indianapolis!
