More about Hollywood Pantages Theatre
The Hollywood area of Los Angeles is known the world over for the many film studios based there, along with the Hollywood sign and the Hollywood Walk of Fame, but it is also home to the Hollywood Pantages Theatre, one of the last great movie palaces. This historic venue has evolved to become an influential performing arts theatre with the newest Broadway productions, so it is important to book Hollywood Pantages Theatre parking ahead of time with ParkWhiz. The theater was built at Hollywood and Vine in 1930 for Alexander Pantages’ vaudeville theatre circuit and designed in Art Deco style by B. Marcus Priteca. Though originally intended to host vaudeville shows and films, it became a movie theater during the Great Depression. Following the sale of the venue to Fox West Coast Theaters in 1932, businessman Howard Hughes in turn purchased the theater for the RKO Theatre Circuit in 1949. The theater was notably the host of the Academy Award Ceremonies from 1949 to 1959. Pacific Theatres gained ownership of the venue in 1965, keeping it as a movie theater until closing it in 1977. The theater reopened as a performing arts venue in 1977 with the help of the Nederlander Organization, who now owns the theater today. Nederlander renovated the theater in 2000 in preparation for hosting The Lion King musical, which included the restoration of the venue’s original 1930s décor. In addition to hosting musicals, the Hollywood Pantages Theatre has been the venue for several concerts and has been included as a shooting location for films and music videos. The venue is located at one of the most famous intersections in the most famous neighborhood of Los Angeles, so it is crucial to book Hollywood Pantages Theatre parking ahead of time with ParkWhiz.
